Frances R. Scamahorn, 79, died Dec. 8, 1997 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Mrs. Scamahorn was born Nov. 25, 1918 to Claude W. and Dorothy (Seekins) Hinshaw. She was married to Matthew E. Scamahorn. He survives. She worked as an operator at the Pittsboro Telephone Exchange. With her husband and mother-in-law, she operated "Scamie's Cafe" in Pittsboro from 1946-1951. She was a member of the Pittsboro Christian Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent for five years. She was a member of the Women's Commission of the Christian Church at the state level and served as coordinator of women's work for the 13-county area. She was a former president of the Home Economics Club in Pittsboro. She was a member of the Rebeccah Lodge.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sandra S. Miles and Margie K. Duncan, both of Indianapolis; one brother, Les Hinshaw of Glouster, Ohio; one sister, Kathleen Bowen of Fishers, Indiana; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Dec. 11 at the Pittsboro Christian Church with Dr. Richard A. Haynes officiating. Private entombment was at Lincoln Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Whitestown, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pittsboro Christian Church.
