Davis Mitchell Applewhite

Mr. Davis Mitchell Applewhite, 72, resident of Baton Rouge, died after a lengthy battle with cancer Wednesday, September 18, 1991at Baton Rouge General Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Applewhite and the husband of Mrs. Helen Finney Applewhite.

A former resident of Winona, Mr. Applewhite was born in Montgomery County and was a retired master carpenter for the East Baton Rouge Parish School District. He attended Airline Christian Assembley in Baton Rouge.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 Saturday, September 21 at Oliver Chapel with Dr. Dennis Frey officiating. Burial was in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Applewhite is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Finney Applewhite of Baton Rouge; two step-daughters, Mrs. Janice Thompson of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Norma Everhardt of Winter Park, Florida; two step-sons, Roger Starks of Baton Rouge and Dr. Dennis Frey of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Mrs. Jean Stangassinger of Belvidere, Illinois and 11 step-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were Sidney Allen, James Watson, Danny Tompkins, Hugh Tompkins, Gregory Tompkins and Joe Applewhite.

Oliver Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
