Joseph was the last and the 8th child born to William Ephriam Wainwright and Nancy B. (Turner) Wainwright.
Jospeh age 23, married Sept 4, 1861 in Lawrence Co., Arkansas to Sarah C. Woodard age 22. Before he went off to the Civil War they had 2 children William Hennon and Virginia Lee Virginia.

Joseph died about age 26 in the Civil War after June of 1863 when his wife became pregnant with Virginia and sometime into 1864. His exact death date and place are not known.

He was in the 1st Arkansas Reg. 30-day Volunteers, C.S.A. This Company was organized at Evening Shade, Lawrence (now Sharp) Co., Arkansas, Capt Daniel Yeager. This Company was enlisted for 30 days on Nov 15, 1861, and was discharged, at Camp Borland, near Pocahontas, Arkansas. Joseph was a Corporal in this unit.
