"Sharon Lavon Rucker, age 85 of Columbia City, IN, went home to be with Jesus at 2:10 pm on Friday May 28, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. Born on November 30, 1935, in Union Township of Whitley County, she was the daughter of Jesse and Laura (Pheister) Braddock.
Sharon grew up in Thorncreek Township, attended Columbia City High School and graduated with the Class of 1953. On April 5, 1968, she married Robert H. Rucker in Columbia City. Sharon worked as a secretary at the Essex Corporation for 10 years and was a Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service, Columbia City for 18 years, until her retirement in 1996.
Sharon was a member of and Junior Church teacher at Faith Baptist Church, and later became a member of Tri-Lakes Baptist Church, fondly known by many as "Aunt Sharon".
Survivors include her children Duane (Laurie) Nierman and Gary (Lisa) Nierman, both of Columbia City Bobbi Jo "BJ" (Dale Dentzer) Rucker of Churubusco, and Linda Eloph of Fort Wayne; step-children Robin (Sharon) Rucker of South Whitley, Chris (Rob Menzie) Cornelius of Warsaw, Kelly (Michael) Rucker of Ocala, FL, and Laura (Ted) Wisniewski of Jamestown, TN; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Dear of Columbia City and Judy (Leroy) Slabach of Nappanee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Rucker and sisters Frances Western, Evelyn Egner, Bonnie Egner, Dean Bowman and Phyllis Bowsman.

VBS at church was full of fun thanks to her. She had VBS campouts & taught the kids how to cook over the fire. She provided games & arts & crafts. Her talent in acting would come out in junior church when she acted out the Bible stories that she was telling, and she had fun doing physically active songs with the kids during her 40 years as a junior ior church teacher.
Mom often times quietly bought groceries, shoes, clothing and medication for needy people when she was able to.
Like was typical for the 8 Braddock girls Mom had her good natured eccentricities that made her fun to be around. The Braddock girls had a funny since of humor which provided us with many comical conversations and memories.~~
