Along with Mary, Bruce owned the Inspiration House Christian Book Store in Falls City for 24 years.

Bruce was active in many community events. He enjoyed visiting nursing homes with his dogs, Patches and then Molly. Bruce and Mary Walker donated 24 white pines to the Steele Cemetery in 2010. These beautiful trees border the north side of the cemetery's property line and the center circle.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
