Michael was a loving husband of Jo Ellen Davey Cohen for 52 years, father of Jason M. Cohen (Grace Yu Cohen), Cynthia J. Frederick (Brad Frederick) and Marisa J. Cohen and "Gondot" of Trevor and Zia Cohen.
A lifelong Chicagoan, Gondot was an unwavering Cubs and Bears fan, loved Lou Malnati's deep dish, and was a bicycle delivery boy for Kow Kow restaurant in his youth. He was ecstatic to finally see his Cubs win the World Series after seven faithful decades. He enjoyed tennis, golf, cigars and antiques – he and Jo Ellen invested years in restoring their 1897 home to its historic roots. Gondot had a great sense of humor and wit – and a few favorite movies he had on perpetual replay, including: The Cutting Edge, What About Bob and Groundhog Day. He loved to challenge his family with chess, Scrabble and Words with Friends, though they never let him forget the cheat list of words once discovered next to his computer.
Mike started Canoe Press & Consulting Services Inc. in 1984 and was a nationally recognized author, speaker, workshop leader and consultant, specializing in leadership and team development. He taught at Northwestern, Roosevelt and Dominican Universities, and conducted leadership effectiveness programs for organizations throughout the United States. Prior to starting his business, Mike served as Director of Employee Relations and Development and Vice President of Human Resources at Weiss Memorial Hospital/University of Chicago for 12 years. He held a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies from Northwestern University.
Gondot's life will be remembered and celebrated by the family he so deeply loved.
