FISHERSVILLE — Paul Goodwin Thayer, 91, of 210 Edgewood Road, Staunton, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2007, at the Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center .

He was born April 19, 1916, in Mount Hope, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, Staunton.

He attended the former VPI, now Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg and retired from the engineering department of Westinghouse Electric.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Goodwin Thayer Jr.; and a brother, Royal Thayer.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret Odell Thayer; a son, Robert D. Thayer, and his wife, Teressa R., of Mooresville, N.C.; and a brother, William Thayer.

A private family memorial service will be conducted today, followed by a private burial at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick St., Staunton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 953, Staunton, VA 24401.

Arrangements have been entrusted by Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Staunton.
