Gadsden - Billy Ray Crane 78 of Gadsden passed away Monday, May 24, 2021. Whether you knew him as Billy Ray, Bill, Choo Choo, Rinky Dink or Bubba. He will be missed by many. Following graduation from Emma Sansom, he joined the United States Navy and served with the Central Pacific Fleet during the Vietnam conflict. He became a truck driver for 25 years traveling coast to coast and border to border and into Canada. He was retired from Teamsters and Walmart. Bill was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and enjoyed the visitation program. Bill's hobbies were bass fishing, Motorcycle riding (always a Harley) and scuba diving. His favorite was skydiving having made over 500 jumps.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Ola Jester Crane; his brother and sister in law, Johnie P. and Carroll Crane; niece and nephew, Charlotte and Jerry Stewart; In laws, Pauline and Julian Sayre; brothers in law, Ronnie Maise and Doyal Sayre, special friends, Ed and Edith Denson and Leon Alford.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rebecca Sayre Crane; daughter, Christi Anna Ash (Chris); grandsons, Devan and Kristopher Ash, nieces and nephews, John and Rebecca Crane, Stephen and Sarah Crane.
He is also survived by sister in law, Barbara Maise; nieces and nephews, Paula and David McDaniel, Joey and Amy Maise, and Jennifer and Carl Knight.
Also close friends, Rev. Joel Carden, Linda Davis, Larry Dudley, Rev. Philip Elliott, Jack Johnston, Tommy Lindsey, Tina and Gary Martin, Daniel Nance, Charlie Whittemore, and many others.
