Alfred worked as an assistant machinist in the Southern Pacific shops in Houston, before moving to Hardin County Texas where he went to work for an oil pipeline company. He had a long career as a machinist in the oil industry.
He married Katie Turner in 1907. They had four children, three daughters: Donnie Alfrieda, Mamie, and Lena Francis, and one son, William Charles Kinzbach.
