Sarah was educated in the Darlington County Public School System. She went to Mayo High School and was a member of the 1964 graduate class. After high school, Sarah relocated to Philadelphia, PA with her sisters.
Sarah's early employment was in retail sales at John Wanamaker's department store. She later pursued a career in healthcare, where she worked for many years until she retired from Wood School Services.
In 1967, Sarah was united in Marriage to Joseph A. Marks. From this union they had two daughters. The family relocated to Willingboro, NJ in 1984, where she remained until her passing.
Sarah was a member at Lamont Church while in Philadelphia, PA. When moving to New Jersey she joined Christ Temple AME Zion Church where she served as Deaconess, Class Leader, Choir Member and WHOM's President. When Christ Temple closed, she joined her Wesley Family at Wesley AME Zion Church. There she served on the Department of Evangelism and the Deaconess Board until she departed this life.
Sarah was preceded by both parents, her loving husband of 50 years and three sisters; Carolyn Kelly, Vermella K. Smalls and Margaret K. Gregg.
Sarah is survived by her two daughters; Sara Melissa Marks Hairston (Lavar), Kelly Williams (Leland) two sisters; Elizabeth K. Henderson, Vivian K. Wilds (Frank) and one brother Samuel E. Kelly Jr. Thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Sarah's life was based on the Word of God, serving her husband, family and community. Sarah's presence will be missed.
