Bob was a very dedicated member of Bedford Baptist Church for 60 years. He was a member of their Liberty Sunday School class. He served his country in the United States Army and was a professional forester for 42 years with Westvaco Corp. He served as past president of the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District and was also a member of the Peaks of Otter Soil and Water Conservation District. He loved the outdoors and traveling, especially fishing, camping and was very active in local Boy Scouts.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Connie Scott Dixon; two children, Diana O'Connell and her husband, Andrew and John R. Dixon and his wife, Melissa; two stepchildren, Michael Scott and his wife, Theresa Bell; and Carrie Arthur; 6 grandchildren, Erin, Ian, Tristan, Benjamin, Sara and Sam; four step-grandchildren, Kara, Michaela, Randy and Conor; 6 step great-grandchildren; and a sister Ruth Ann Dixon Davis and her husband, Charles. Also surviving is his previous wife and mother of his two children, Carolyn Johnson Dixon and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
