Benny Charles Jenkins passed away peacefully on Monday, May 24, 2021, at the age of 89. Services will be held at a later date.
Benny, fondly known as Papa, was born in Ben Wheeler, Texas on October 17, 1931. He was 1 of 9 children born to George and Rubye Jenkins.
Benny joined the Air Force when he was 18. While stationed in Edinburgh, Scotland he met and fell in love with Maude (Terry) Yule. They were married in Edinburgh on December 29, 1953.
He and his family lived in many places over the years including Scotland, California, Texas, England and Germany. He was also stationed remotely in Alaska, Turkey and Greece. After 20 years in the service, he retired in San Angelo where he started Triangle Distributing Company that eventually became Valley Vending Company which owned and operated among other things, Northside Storage Facility where he was known as 'the man under the tree' greeting and looking out for his customers.
Benny and Terry were members of St Luke United Methodist Church.
Benny and Terry had a great gift of hospitality. Their home was known and cherished as 'The Fun House'. It was always full of their children and grandchildren. There was always something cooking for family and friends. Anyone and everyone were welcome at their home. Every summer you could find the grandkids, neighbors and friends swimming, playing arcade games and eating. Many, many fond memories were made there.
Benny and Terry were married for 66 years. When Terry became ill, Benny became her sole caregiver for the last five years of her life. They could be seen throughout San Angelo eating at restaurants and attending their great grandchildren's sporting events.
Benny is survived by four children: Deborah and husband, Russ Weatherford, Denise and husband, Jeff Chesnut, David Jenkins and Ron Jenkins; daughter-in-law, Sandy Jenkins; 12 grandchildren Will, Whitney and husband, Kully, Lizzy, Gus, Maggy, Justin and wife, Skylar, Kacey and husband Randy, Addi and fiancé, Tyler, Sage, Devin and wife, Rebecca, Leanne and Jeremy and Kristin and Dustin; 15 great-grandchildren; Kenedy, Kanon, Lux, Kotton, Lane, Payton, Townes, Jaxson, Autumn, Cash, Rocky, Benny, Maycie, Jenna and Hadley; one brother, Don and special friend Francis (Birdie) Dempsey. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Terry, a son, Benny Wayne and a grandson, William Bentley.
