Walter C. Schwartz, age 100, passed away at the Courtyard at Oshkosh Assisted Living on Monday, May 24, 2021. He was born to the late Conrad and Anna (Wolfe) Schwartz on July 25, 1920, in Newark, New Jersey. After graduating from East Side High School, Walter joined the Army Air Corps where he worked on airplanes during World War II. He married Elizabeth Hegedus on September 9, 1950, in New Jersey. They were together until her passing in 2003. Walter spent his career working for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825
in New Jersey. Walter was a member at Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and boating in his homebuilt boat, Gypsy. He was a founding member of the Howard F. Schwartz American Legion Post 408, Newark, New Jersey.
Walter is survived by his son, Howard (Sharon) Schwartz; grandson, Erik Schwartz (Justine Weber); and his brother, Robert Schwartz.
In addition to his parents and wife, Walter was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Arthur, and Wilbur Schwartz, and sisters, Clara Semak and Helen Schwartz.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church (830 S Westhaven Dr) on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 10 AM. Father Kevin Ripley will be officiating the service. A visitation will be held from 9 AM until the time of service. Following the service, a burial will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at the Courtyard at Oshkosh as well as Saint Croix Hospice and his Havenwood neighbors for all their loving care and support of Walter.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church.
