High school sweethearts, Norma & Tom, wed in North Carolina on January 12th, 1957. Then shortly moved to Vienna, Virginia, where they started a family and became pillars of the community. Norma was an active leader at Wesley United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, volunteered to host Wednesday night dinners, decorated the lectern for Church Holidays, of which Christmas and Easter were her favorite, and sang in the choir. She also led service projects collecting books and school supplies for Elementary School children for Ketcham Charter School in Washington, D.C.
While raising her children, Norma worked at the Department of Agriculture, serving as the secretary to the Secretary of Agriculture; however, her most treasured role was as wife, mother, and grandmother. Norma loved to watch over and care for each of her grandchildren while keeping up with their news. She loved cheering, traveling, and watching her grandchildren's sporting and school events. Her children and grandchildren could always count on Nani to support them especially helping them look their best. She also enjoyed traveling and watching the Nationals with Tommy. Recently she was enthralled watching the baby panda. Norma will be remembered as being full of life, love, and joy. In her last selfless act, Norma was an organ donor.
Norma is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Thomas, her sons, Jeffrey and Bruce(Cheryl). Along with her grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr., Jacob, Olivia, Meredyth, and Blake. In addition, her great-grandchildren Brock and Owen. She is predeceased by her parents, Ferman & Maggie Ferguson, her brother, James E. Ferguson, and granddaughter, Hanna.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1st at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna. Burial will follow at National Memorial Park. A reception will accompany for family and friends at Settle Down Easy, 2822 Fallfax Dr, Falls Church.
