BETTENDORF – Thomas Patterson, 89, of Bettendorf, died Monday, April 26, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport. Per his wishes, the rite of cremation will be accorded and there will be no visitation or service. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Tom was the son of John D. and Margaret (Isom) Patterson. He married Mary Jo Wilton January 20, 1956. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother, Harold and younger sister, Bertha. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, 4 nephews, 3 nieces and their children.

Tom was born May 5, 1931 in Fort Dodge Iowa. His family moved to Winfield, Iowa in 1936. He graduated from Winfield Consolidated High School in 1949. Tom received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa Wesleyan College. He received a Master's Degree in School Administration and an Educational Specialist Degree in School Administration from Western Illinois University.

Tom taught school in Mediapolis, Wapello, Winfield, Burlington, and Bettendorf. He was a principal of 5 elementary schools in Bettendorf over a period of 16 years. He retired from the Bettendorf School District as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in 1991.

Any memorials may be sent to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
