George Baier was born 30 Mar 1843 in Baden, Germany. From birth records on familysearch.org, his parents were Michael Bayer and Maria Anna Hauger. His father died when he was about 1 year old.

His uncles were Mathias Baier (1807–1871), Phillip Baier (1812–1877), Andrew Baier (1814–1881). Phillip and Andrew lived in Glasgow.

From about 1857-1862, he lived in Glasgow, Howard, Missouri, according to his pension papers. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War, 1862-1865, 9 Missouri S.M. Cav.~~9th Regiment Missouri State Militia Calvary~~ Company E. George contracted erysipelas in May of 1862, during the Battle of Columbia, and in the Battle of Fayetteville in April, 1863. It affected his eyes, which became inflamed and sore and weakened them where he couldn't see well. He received injuries during the Second Battle of Independence in Oct, 1864, when his horse fell on him, pinning him to the ground, causing him to suffer from vericose veins in his legs. He lived in Glasgow and Salisbury from 1865-1886, after he was discharged from the Army.

In 1870, George lived with his uncle, Phillip Baier, in Glasgow, Howard, Missouri.

George married Mary Suppe on 16 Feb 1871, in New Frankfort, Saline, Missouri. They lived in Glasgow and Salisbury during their marriage and while their children were born. Their children were Frederick Alexander, George Jr., Walter Phillip, Reinhold "Ray", Mary Louisa, Bertha, William Augustine, and Frances C.

George was naturalized on 26 Oct 1892, in Jackson Co., Missouri.

It is unknown exactly when George passed away, but his widowed wife claimed Civil War pension on 31 Jan 1893, so it was before that date.
