He was married 1st about early September 1926 to Ruby Lee Etheridge (1907–1962), the daughter of Robert "Ewing" Etheridge (1887–Feb 1937) and his 1st wife Della Ruby (Mansfield) (Etheridge) Welch (1890–1972). Paul was married 2nd to Virginia Ferguson.
In Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee, Paul died November 22, 1990 at 85 years of age.
Survivors included his widow Virginia, son Reverend Paul Richard Gunn, daughters Jean G Marshall, Carol lG Weatherford, Martha G Kincaid and Janie G Reed, stepson Dr Morris D Ferguson, stepdaughter Rachael F Miller, sister Bertha Shingler, fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at Nashville's First Church of the Nazarene on November 24th, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville, with Senior Citizens Orchestra and The Dallas Sunday School Class included in the Honorary Pallbearers.
