From Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home:

William Edward Hobbs passed away peacefully May 18, 2021, at the age of 79 after bravely battling brain cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Alice of 56 years; three sons: William (Tami), Charles (Ellen) and Mark (Melissa); and eight grandchildren: Kristina, Charles, Jonathan, Connor, Aidan, Harrison, Tyler and Barrett. He is also survived by his brother, Louis (Carol) Hobbs, and sister, Lois Bradley.

Bill graduated from Rice University in 1965 with a chemical engineering degree and obtained his master's degree from the University of Michigan. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a lieutenant in the Navy on a destroyer and was very proud of his contribution to our great country. He worked for Coastal States and Citgo refinery companies in Corpus Christi, TX before retiring to River Mountain Ranch in Boerne, TX 17 years ago. He lived a very charitable life, giving of his time and resources to family and community. He is an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church and enjoyed bible study and the fellowship he found there. He was a member of the Early Risers Fourth Day Group, a breakfast prayer group. He was an avid sports fan and loved his weekly golf games with his close friends. Friday nights, in the fall, he could always be found in the stands watching Boerne football games, unless he could make it to his grandchildren's games. This continued a long tradition of supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors, including football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, track, surfing, band, choir and anything else they could think of doing. He has been known to carry a video recorder to many of these events, even when it was a VHS recorder the size of a suitcase. He set an example, for all of his sons, of the importance of hard work and service to others as a measure of success in life.

After retiring to Boerne, he immersed himself in church and community, making everyone he met feel special and welcome. He also took advantage of his free time to explore his love of animals. He could be seen daily feeding corn to his "herd" of deer in the front yard and was especially proud of his hummingbird feeders in the spring and fall as this was very relaxing to him. He loved Labrador retrievers and had at least two living with him at all times. He had always dreamed of retiring to the country and thankfully, his time at River Mountain Ranch and Boerne provided him that opportunity. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends but we take solace in the fact that he is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, probably feeding the animals.
