Justin Peterson, 42, passed away on May 14, 2021 of cancer surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Liturgical Wake Service to follow at 6:30 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be at The Church of St. Mary in Sioux Falls, SD on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation for Ella, Jaxon and Molly at: Justin Peterson Memorial Fund, Attention Bri Ridley, C/O FNBSF Main Office PO Box 5186, Sioux Falls, SD 57117-9986.

Justin John Peterson was born on September 18, 1978 to Janice Wick and Pete Peterson in Waseca, MN. He graduated from Waseca High School in 1997. Justin graduated from the University of Minnesota- Mankato with a degree in Education in 2003 and went on to complete his Master's in 2006. Justin married Sarah Basche on August 2, 2003 in Sioux Falls, SD. Justin began his teaching career at Argentine Middle School in Kansas City, Kansas where he taught for 11 years. They relocated their family to Sioux Falls in 2014 to be closer to family. Justin continued his teaching career at Axtell Park Middle School for the last 7 years and also worked at Fed Ex.
Justin had many passions in life and devoted himself in the classroom to students with emotional and behavioral disorders. His biggest passion was being a devoted husband to his wife and 3 children. You would find him attending Ella's Choir Concerts, coaching and playing baseball with Jaxon and watching Molly in her dance recitals. Justin was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and attended Kansas City Chiefs games with students while he was teaching in Kansas. He enjoyed taking family trips, golfing and making new friends wherever he went.

Justin's heart was the biggest part of him which showed by the impact and influence he bestowed on his family, students and friends.
Justin was diagnosed with cancer in May 2020 and courageously fought this disease with a positive and strong attitude.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sarah; daughters, Ella and Molly; son, Jaxon all of Sioux Falls; mother, Janice Peterson (Brett) of Waseca, MN; father, Pete Peterson (Marly) of Lanesboro, MN; brother, Michael (Jen) of Rochester, MN; sisters, Whitney Penny (Marcus) of Minneapolis, MN, Brittany Fabian (Tanner), and Lacey Peterson (Shawn) all of Winona, MN; his father and mother-in-law, Doug & Becky Basche of Sioux Falls; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Alick (Joe) of Sioux Falls; his brother-in-law, Jon Basche (Maggie) of Sioux Falls; 5 nieces, Parker, Lena, Addison, Emma and Clara; 5 nephews, Llewyn, Carson, Jack, Charlie and Benjamin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Justin is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harvey and Florence Peterson, maternal grandmother, Louise Wick, niece, Olivia Peterson and one cousin, David Nelson
