Betty Mervean Patterson Carthel, age 88, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021. A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Lockney Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney.
Mervean was born April 6, 1933 in Aspermont, Texas to Oscar Branch and Virgia Ella (Frasier) Patterson. Her family moved to Floyd County when she was in the sixth grade. She married Bobby Frank Carthel on May 14, 1949. She was a housewife but also worked at Brown's Department Store and at Kristy's in Plainview. Mervean was a member of the West Side Church of Christ in Lockney.
Mervean was preceded in death by both her parents, and her husband.
Those left to cherish Mervean's memory are her daughter Sherrey Price (Jim), her son Dart Carthel (Joann), her daughter Jackie Carthel and her daughter Tammie Mitchell; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests donations in her memory be made to the Lockney EMS, PO Box 10, Lockney, Texas 79241.
