August E. Baetsle, 79 years old, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at his residence in Mishawaka. August was born May 5, 1942 to the late August A. and Mary June (Castleman) Baetsle and was a lifelong Mishawaka resident.
August had many passions in life. He was a staunch supporter of public education and taught mathematics at Mishawka High School for many years, including as Chair of the Mathematics Department. He also taught at Indiana University-South Bend and IVY Tech. August enjoyed volunteering and serving the local community, including at REAL Services and many roles at East United Methodist Church, where he was a long-time member. He was on the Board for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation and led a local Dystonia support group. August was also dedicated to learning about his genealogy, including traveling to Belgium. More recently, August loved attending his grandchildren's activities and events, celebrating their successes.
August is survived by his daughters, Joanne (David) Rendall of Mishawaka, Diane (Carl, Jr.) Wittendorf of Granger, and Suzanne (Joe) Scheller of Champlin, MN; a son, Bryan (Brenda Fulmer) Baetsle of Wasilla, AK; eleven grandchildren, Josh (Allyce) Rendall, Matt (Tracy) Rendall, Jacob Rendall, Beccah Rendall, Eden (Sam) Murray, Christian Wittendorf, Charity (Nolan) Cox, Abby Scheller, Tim Scheller, Peter Scheller, and Mark Scheller; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bradley (Andrea) Baetsle of Indianapolis, IN. August is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and students. Along with his parents, August is preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Baetsle.
Funeral services for August will be held at on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Homes-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N Main St, Mishawaka 46545. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
