Funeral services for Eleanor B Simpson will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 10:00am in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Rev. David Green and Rev. Kathy Coble officiating. Burial will follow in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, beginning at 9:00am. Eleanor Browning Simpson passed away April 23, 2013 at age 86. She was born March 20, 1927 in Baton Rouge, La. to Richard Hightower Browning, Jr. and Ivis Clifford Bruce Browning. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1942 and Stephen F. Austin University in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Math, and a minor in physics. She was a lab assistant in Lufkin for 3 years and then taught school in Huntington for one year. In 1949 she moved to Conroe where she met her future husband, Bobby Simpson, co-owner of Simpson-Dabney Appliance Store. She was a teacher at Travis Junior High where she taught for 16 years. Eleanor taught mathematics to many of Conroe's children and is remembered by them as an excellent teacher. Eleanor loved being with people and entertained in her home quite frequently. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary for many years where she chaired the Poppy Sales for Armistice Day and the Bluebonnet State Scholarships for all Montgomery County boys and girls. Eleanor was also a member of the Montgomery County Home Demonstration Club, The Fexaterians Supper Club, the Pan American Round Table and the Money Makers Investment club. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and its Esther Circle. She loved to golf and was a member of Conroe Country Club and traveled extensively with her daughter Jackie. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and daughters Julie, Jane, and Jacklyn. She is survived by her aunts, Rebecca Castleberry of Lufkin and Helen Atkinson of Round Rock, Texas, numerous cousins and her special K-9 companion, Molly. Her nephew Mike Norton and his family were faithful visitors. She also had many special friends close by, Kathy Coble, Pat and Jim Fenton, Karla Fenton, April and Keith Kauffman and their children, Kyra and Casey, Bettye Wakefield, Susan Eckis, Andrea Durrett, Bill and Linda Laurents, Tony Benjamin and Helen Herron. The family and friends of Eleanor would like to give special appreciation to her caregivers, Thelma Sweat, Tywonna Sweat and the staff of Odyssey Hospice for their dedication and loving attitude they provided to Eleanor.
