John Fisher was born in Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland, England and was a coal miner. He married Ann Combie on 18 Jul 1843 in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England and they moved to Ohio between then and 1850 where he continued his mining activities. Ann died in 1897 and John lived from then until his death with his son Dr. Edward Combie Fisher in Lyons KS, daughter Anna Beiler in Bufffalo NY, and possibly other children from time o time.

"Dr. E. C. Fisher was called to Middleport, Ohio last week to attend the funeral of his father who died at the residence of a daughter in Buffalo, N.Y. The body was brought back to the old home in Middleport, Ohio, to be laid to rest by the side of his wife. Mr. Fisher visited a year in Lyons several years ago with his son."
