Michael Richard Helms
June 19, 1957 - May 20, 2021

On June 19, 1957, in Osage, Iowa, Michael Richard Helms was born to two loving parents, Dale (deceased) and Virginia Helms.

He would often reminisce of early childhood memories shared between him and his siblings: Stephen Helms Sr., Susan Fontenot, Timothy Helms (deceased), and Luann Helms. Most of his stories included getting into some sort of trouble and moving around the country due to his dad's work. No matter where they moved, he always had his family with him and considered them his closest friends.

Early in his life he would marry Janis Lebert and have Michael Edward Ewing. He loved Michael Jr. dearly but unfortunately, they were unable to remain close after the divorce. He loved him dearly and talked about him often. He continued to move around with his family from place to place, helping to set up factories and learning how to become a jack of all trades. If there was something broken, he could fix it and could make a pile of scraps into an entirely new building.

Around this time, he discovered his love for music especially rock and roll. He loved it enough to teach himself the guitar without any idea how to read music. He was very talented and learned how to play simply by listening to music and playing along. He also started to write his own music and would play it almost daily. When he settled down in Texas, he even started a band and instilled a love of music in everyone he met.

Eventually, he met Francis Jeannine Steinhauer and soon married her and had a baby girl named Tiffany Jeannine Helms. Even though a divorce made him unable to see his daughter every day he still cherished every day that he got to spend with her. As she grew up, he was very proud of her and loved her singing and the music she brought into his life.

After the divorce, he met Diana Atwood-Helms along with her two sons, Shawn Luther Tousignant and Joshua Raymond Cordell. He tried to raise them as his own and taught them everything that he could. Especially the knowledge of race cars, motorcycles, and music. The kids were often up to various shenanigans that caused Diana grief, but he would often egg them on and found humor in the shenanigans.

He stayed with Diana for 38 years and had another daughter named Kathryn Dale Lee Helms. He shared with her his love of sci-fi and they loved spending time watching them together. Though his fatherly love was not limited to only his children and extend to many of his nieces and nephews as well as his five grandchildren. Michael loved in a very deep way and would do anything for those close to him regardless of the legality.

On May 20, 2021, Michael passed away and services will be held at the Billington church on June 12 at 10:00 am in order to celebrate his life.
