Mark was born to Virgil and Nelma (Gambrell) Allen on August 2, 1961, in Houma, Louisiana. Mark received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Zoology from the University of Mississippi and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Louisiana. He worked for nearly thirty-three years as a pharmacist with Walgreens as his last place of employment.
Mark was passionate about Ole Miss sports and Ole Miss football in particular. He and his brother Gary had season tickets for football for a number of years, and he loved cheering his favorite team on. In addition to being a fan of Ole Miss football, Mark was an avid bodybuilder. His crowning achievement in this sport was when he won National Physique Committee Bodybuilding Champion and National Physique Committee Athlete of the Year in 1996. Mark was also fond of sports cars and enjoyed an extreme driving experience with his sons Conner and Jacob. Mark will be remembered for his kindness, optimism, and determination.
Mark is survived by his wife, Stephanie Brock Allen, his sons Conner Benjamin Allen and Jacob Landon Allen, his parents Virgil Dewitt Allen and Nelma Gambrell Allen, his brothers Gary (Connie) Allen and Roger (Cindy) Allen, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 21, at Fondren Church on 3327 Old Canton Road, Jackson, Mississippi, at two o'clock p.m. with Groups Pastor Jon Wood officiating. A reception will follow in the church commons after the service.
