Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Reverend Mack Moye officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Johnnie was born in Kennedy, Texas, on July 7, 1937, daughter of Emma Bell (Canada) and John Hall Yates. She worked in healthcare as a homecare helper. "She was not a person to just sit around. She wanted to always be doing something even when it was not possible. Before retiring, she worked in the homes of many special friends." She was a fighter and lived her life to the fullest.
"There's no other Mom like you, of that we are sure. We are blessed to have had you in our lives. We will surely miss you, but we know that we will see each other again in Heaven."
Her parents; her husband, Leonard Jefferson; and a niece, Tia Jefferson Roberts preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Toni Jefferson Hardaway and Sandra Jefferson Bracy and husband, Alvin; three grandsons, Rashad Barnes, Rafael Matthew and Rakeatron Peoples; and a granddaughter, Sandra Jefferson. Johnnie is also survived by sisters, Audrey Graisano and Muriel Yates Jefferson; nephews, Michael Jefferson, Kevin Jefferson, and Willie Daughtery; and nieces, Andrea Jefferson, Talia Jefferson and Jo Ann Daughtery.
