Arnold Dean 'Mitch' Mitchell, 82, of Sullivan passed away at 7:21 p.m. Saturday May 22, 2021in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan.

Dean was born May 27, 1938 in Shelby County, the son of Lewis Andrew and Agnes Selina Hardin Mitchell. He married Alice Kathleen 'Kathy' Miller on January 6, 1967 in Sullivan.

Dean worked as a pipefitter for A. E. Staley for over 38 years. After retirement, Dean and Kathy spent time in Atlanta and Florida, before moving back to Sullivan in 2000. In Sullivan, Dean worked at Sullivan Ace Hardware for over 10 years before fully retiring in 2020.

Dean was a well-known fastpitch softball player and is a member of the Illinois Softball Hall of Fame. He was a president of Sullivan Little League as well as one of the founders and coach of the Sullivan Boys Travel Baseball program.

Surviving are his wife Kathy of Sullivan; sons Brandon (Lynn) Mitchell of Cumming, Georgia, Jason (Shawna) Mitchell of Great Falls, Montana and Erik (Tara) Mitchell of Forsyth; sister Virginia Risley of Sullivan; grandchildren Kyle Mitchell, Erik Mitchell, Regan Mitchell, Lynsey Holton, Ally Holton, Peyton Mitchell, Maci Mitchell, Hayden Mitchell and Hallie Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
