Lizella, Georgia - Marilyn Bennett Edwards passed away on May 22, 2021 in Macon, GA.

Marilyn was born in Jacksonville, Florida to Oscar and Eula Bennett.

She lived in Waycross and Valdosta, Georgia and moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina at age five.

She graduated as an Honor Graduate from Spartanburg High School and moved to Macon to attend Wesleyan College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology in 1954. After graduation, she met her future husband, Robert Edwards, at a YWCA dance.

Marilyn worked for the Bibb County Welfare Department and later had a career with the Medical Center of Central Georgia, where she worked in Social Services from October of 1966 and until her retirement, in 1994.

Marilyn was a member of the Middle Georgia CB Radio Club, the Glenhaven Garden Club (President), the Georgia Association of Hospital Social Workers (officer), and the Association of Public Welfare Workers. She was an active church member having attended Cherokee Heights Methodist Church and Lizella United Methodist Church. She has served as the Chairperson of Missions, President of the Joy Sunday School Class, and as Secretary of United Methodist Women. She led and supported Operation Shoebox, the Angel Tree, and Thanksgiving Fruit Basket projects.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Edwards, Sr. and her daughter, Lynn Edwards.

She is survived by her loving children Cathy (Orhan) Moss, Susan (Gary) Grant, Robert Edwards, Jr., and Richard Edwards; and her grandchildren Jeffrey Jones, Heather (Randy) Clemons, Joshua (Brittany) Grant, Alexandra (Patrick) Leahy, Amelia (Marcus) Baker, and Bennett Edwards and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Lizella United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday at Snows Memorial Chapel on Pio Nono Avenue and following the service at the church. Rev. Josh Gale and Rev. Loran Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery private for family only.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Lizella United Methodist Church, 2920 S. Lizella Road, Lizella 31052.
