He attended Bethany Lutheran College, Concordia Seminary (St. Louis), and Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary. While attending Concordia, he served two years at the Saude-Jerico parish in Iowa as a Christian Day School teacher, as vacancy pastor at the East and West Paint Creek, IA, parish, and as assistant pastor of St. John's Lutheran church (LCMS) in Austin, MN.
Aaberg served the Scarville-Center, IA, parish 1949-1968 and the Norseland-Norwegian Grove, MN, parish 1968-1976. In 1976 he accepted the call to serve as president of Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary. He resigned from this position in 1979 due to ill health. He had also served as interim president of Bethany Lutheran College from August 1977 to January 1978.
From 1962-1963 Aaberg served the Evangelical Lutheran Synod as its 13th president. He also was editor of the "Lutheran Sentinel" was a member of the Board of Regents, its Doctrine Committee, and served on its Youth Board.
Aaberg authored "A City Set on a Hill", a comprehensive history of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod from 1918-1968.
