A peaceful sunset for Betty Louise Helgren, age 84 of Waverly, Iowa and formerly a longtime resident of Cannon Falls, was on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.

Her earthly sunrise was on January 19, 1937 in Red Wing, MN, the daughter of Martin and Martha (Lohman) Hadler. After graduating from Zumbrota High School, Betty attended beauty school. Throughout her life, Betty helped local residents with their haircuts and styles. She also was employed at Kid Duds and Cannon Equipment.

She married Ralph "Bud" Helgren on June 14, 1957 in Goodhue. They raised four children together. In her early years, Betty enjoyed bowling and Bingo. More recently, she has loved dancing and playing cards.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Sue) of Goodhue, Doug of Cannon Falls, and Pam (Barry) Underdahl of Cannon Falls; a very special man in her life, LaVerne Sadler of Wavery, IA; former son-in-law, Randy Schultz of Bayfield, WI and former daughter-in-law, Kelly Helgren of Cannon Falls; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Arnold (Dorothy) Hadler of AZ, Duane (Lu) Hadler of Farmington, Doris Helgren and JoAnn Robinson, both of Cannon Falls, and Judy (Donnie) Kruse of Zumbrota; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Diane (Darold) Hanson, Bob Helgren, and Kathy (Bruce) Duden; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph "Bud" on 9-9-1991; daughter, Barbara Schultz on 10-6-2016; siblings, Harlan Lohman and Alice Hadler; and in-laws, Mary Jane Packard, Eugene "Jess" Helgren, and Janet Linkert.

A walk-through visitation will be held on Sunday, May 16 from 1pm – 2:30pm at Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls. A brief service will be held at 2:30pm. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Betty's family.
