Born June 22, 1934 at Pine Bluff, he was a son of the late Virgil Henry "Shorty" Walker and Gladie Hall Walker. Jack graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1952, where he played baritone saxophone under the direction of R. B. "Scrubby" Watson. He was appointed band president his senior year.
An honor graduate of Arkansas A&M College (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello), he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He later did post-graduate work at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and graduated from an ICS correspondence course in electrical engineering.
Mr. Walker was employed by Arkansas Power and Light Company/Entergy for 35 years, primarily in substation design.
An active member of First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff for over 65 years, he was an honorary life deacon.
He married Annette Cloud Walker on July 14, 1955 at First Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2011.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by a brother, John Walker; and a sister, Lorraine Rothwell.
Survivors include a son, J. Vernon Walker (Lisa); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Walker-Tilley (Matt) and Jackson Walker (Stephanie); a great-grandson, Sean Walker; and a step-great-granddaughter, Clara Matheny.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Fuller Hale Hale-South Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Brother Ken Thornton, Brother Harold Mitchell, and Brother Brian Bolton officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
