Marjorie Baril passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021, in Lima, Ohio.

Marj was born on December 19, 1940, in Honolulu, HI, to Kenji and Fumiko (Yoshinaka) Okada. She earned a Bachelor's degree from University of Michigan; her first Master's degree, in teaching English as a Second Language from Teachers College, Columbia University; and second Master's in Linguistics from the University of Michigan, and completed all coursework towards her Doctorate in Linguistics. She married Dr. James Baril on June 7, 1969.

Marj enjoyed art, travel and her family. She was passionate about learning and helping others as a docent at the Toledo Museum of Art. She was an avid and award-winning photographer and travelled the globe, including Egypt, Jordan, Japan, China. She also enjoyed camping with her family and loved visiting Michigan's Upper Pennisula. Most importantly, Marj was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and niece.

Marj was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Marin Harbur) Baril of Lima, OH; her son, Donald (Savannah) Baril of Los Angeles, CA; her sister, Kathleen (Warren) Sato of Kailua, HI; her brother, Dexter (JoAnn) Okada of Honolulu, HI; and her four grandchildren, James and Max Harbur and Jackson and Harper Baril; as well as by her nieces, nephews, and many extended family members.

Services will be held at a later date so that family may travel from afar and safely gather outdoors.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Toledo Museum of Art or St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Perrysburg, Ohio.
