OBITUARY
PONTOTOC - Dennis Ray "D.R." Simmons, 90, went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County after a brief illness. D.R. was born on March 22, 1933, in Pontotoc, MS to Edgar and Lottie Bell Simmons. He served in the Korean War as Sergeant first class and was honorably discharged with several medals: Bronze Service Star and National Service Medal. He owned and operated a tire business for 50 years. After retiring from his tire business, he built and operated his own lawn-mowing business. D.R. served as Alderman for the City of Pontotoc. He was loved by all of his family and friends.

D.R. is survived by his son, David Simmons (Barbara); his grandchildren, Shane Simmons (Sonya), Dustin Simmons (Chasity), and Shannon Young (John Walker); and his great-grandchildren, Katie, Reece, Jackson, Sawyer, Adalyn, Silas, Sebastian, Hanna, Hailey, Heather, and Savanna.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Simmons; his parents, Edgar and Lottie Simmons; son, Jeff Simmons; and his siblings, Donald Simmons, Iris Morrison, Lynn Simmons, Robbie Hugh Simmons, and Rodger Dane Simmons.

Graveside Services will be 2 PM, Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Pontotoc City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM and continue to 2 PM.
