BIRTH
Richard Byrne was baptized on July 4th, 1847 in the Abbeyleix Catholic and Civil Parish in Diocese Kildare and Leighlin in the Ballytarsna Townland of Queen's County, Ireland. His parents were Martin Byrne and Mary Doran. In 1850 his father leased a house and land from the Viscount de Vesci.
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
Richard was a Farmer. He married Eliza Higgins in 1873 in Raheen Townland. They settled in Ballytarsna Townland. They had seven children. One son died early. Mary Bridget was the only daughter to emigrate. Three of Mary's brothers followed her to the USA. By 1911 only Jane and Edward were at home with their mother and father. In Ballytarsna Townland Richard had a house on land with two rooms, leased from the de Vesci Estate, that was intact as of 1971. He owned farm animals (cows, pigs, and fowl) on the property.
DEATH
Richard Byrne died in 1916 in Abbeyleix Catholic and Civil Parish in Ballytarsna Townland, Queen's County, Ireland. Richard died before his wife, Eliza.
BURIAL
Richard Byrne was buried in the graveyard of The Most Holy Rosary Church, Town of Abbeyleix , Queen's County (renamed County Laois in 1922), Ireland. Eliza Higgins Byrnes had a grave marker erected for Richard and several of their sons.

Dr Jane O'Brien Lyons provided the inscription at From-ireland.net. Dr Lyons reported that the gravestone was located at "Old Graveyard" in County Laois.
