Betty Jo "BJ" Shelton, age 77, of Roanoke, Virginia left this earth into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 9, 2021. She was born August 6, 1943 and was a daughter of the late Hester and Harry McGuire. She graduated from Tazewell High School in Tazewell, Virginia in 1961 and continued her studies at McClain's Business College in Bluefield, West Virginia. She then moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the FBI. She returned home to Tazewell and met her husband, Harry Shelton. They then moved to Roanoke, Virginia where she was employed by Hills Department store. She was an animal lover and cherished her dogs. She enjoyed bowling and watching her favorite football team, The Washington Redskins. Betty reaffirmed her faith through baptism in 2019 by Pastor Paul Hatfield and proudly became a member at Living Water Christian Church at Northside in Roanoke, Virginia. Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Harry Shelton; two daughters, Kaye Johnson and husband Ellie, and Christy Knott and husband Jeff, all of Roanoke, Virginia; four stepchildren, Gerri Street, Terri Leon, Anita Lell, and Michael Shelton; four grandchildren, Brittney Galloway, Felicia Knott, Cody Knott, and Olivia Atkins; one sister; Kathy Collins and Husband Kelly Collins; several nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to Sue Vael and Pastor Paul Hatfield for their love and support for BJ. We greatly appreciate your friendship.
A Private service will be held at the grave site with close family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty Jo's Memory to the Franklin County Humane Society, 18401 Virgil Goode Highway, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
