Father George A. Wilt, age 89, former longtime Pastor of St. Bernard Church in Mt. Lebanon, died peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021 of complications following a stroke.

Born September 5, 1931 in New Bethlehem, PA, he was the youngest child of the late Augustine F. and Letta B. Aaron Wilt;

dear brother of John Wilt (Betty), the late Mary Hoover (the late John), the late Bernard Wilt (the late Elaine), the late Kathryn Harrison (the late Bill), the late Teresa Morgan (the late Charles) and the late Rita Filson (the late Tom); devoted uncle of John Hoover (Patty), Gerald Hoover (Janet), Julie Miller (Alex) and Joe Hoover; Bill (Barb) and Lawrence Harrison; John Wilt (Janet), Kathryn Wilt (Peter Madsen), David Wilt (Lisa), Dan Wilt (Beth Pride) and Carolyn Studt (Keith); Chuck Morgan; and the late Jim Hoover (Barb, surviving), the late Jeff Hoover (Lesa, surviving) and the late Mary Beth Filson Theisler; great-uncle of the late Robert and the late Laura Hoover; also survived by many other great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Father Wilt was ordained on May 30, 1959 by Bishop John Wright at St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland. He served as parochial vicar at Sacred Heart Parish in Shadyside from June 1959 until March 1968. He served as parochial vicar at St. Bernard Church in Mt. Lebanon from March 1968 until December 1972, then served at St. Bernard's as associate administrator from December 1972 until June 1974, when he was named pastor at St. Bernard's and served as pastor there for nearly three decades, until May 2003. From 2003 until 2018 he celebrated daily masses and funeral masses at St. Philip Church, SS. Simon and Jude Church, St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Our Lady of Grace Church and many other churches in the South Hills. Father Wilt's greatest loves were his church, family, golfing, Notre Dame football and dining out.

The family will receive clergy and friends at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, on TUESDAY May 25, 2021 from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. (Masks will be required at the Funeral Home). His funeral mass will be offered in SS. Simon and Jude Church (St. Raphael the Archangel Parish), 1607 Greentree Road, Greentree, on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., with the Most Reverend Bishop David A. Zubik, as celebrant (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery on Thursday will be private
