McDonald, Gordon Emmit, 87, of Middleburg, Florida passed away on May 20, 2021 at his home. He was born in Clay County, Florida to the late James and Edna McDonald. He graduated from Clay High in 1952. He was Chief Communicator with the Florida Highway Patrol and retired after 30 years of proud service.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sara Beth Barnes McDonald; daughter, Deborah McDonald; granddaughter, DeAnn Huff; and great-granddaughters, Sophie and Emberlee Huff; sister, Sandra Wilson; close family friend, Millie Wilkes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was active in the Middleburg United Methodist Church for many years. He helped redesign the sanctuary, maintain the Historic Church and was instrumental in overseeing the construction of the Family Life Center. He was fire chief of the Middleburg Volunteer Fire Department and helped build the building that homes the current Middleburg Fire Department. His involvement with the many Senior Citizens Christmas Dinners and fireworks displays showed his love for the community. Mr. Gordon also volunteered at the Clay County Agricultural Fair and received the Volunteer of the Year Award. He was an outdoorsman, loved to fish, hunt, fast cars and a great cook. His Sophie said he could build anything that came to his mind.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am – 11:00am, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Middleburg United Methodist Church and funeral services in celebration of Mr. Gordon's life will begin at 11:00am with Pastor Brian Sanderson and Pastor Bob Wannall officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Middleburg United Methodist Church Cemetery following the service.
