Michael "Mickey" (Morris) Wells passed away peacefully on May 20, 2021 in Cañon City, CO after a lengthy illness and complications from the COVID-19 virus.
Mickey was born November 3, 1954 in Lynwood, CA to Orvin Eugene "Gene" Morris and Norma Louise "Lou" Morris (Costa). Mickey served as Latin Club officer and graduated early with a 4.0 GPA and ranked 3rd in her class from Excelsior High School in 1972. She spent her final semester at sea, cruising the globe with Chapman College. She married William Lewis Wells on March 16, 1974 in Bellflower, CA and had two children – Jessica Leigh and Jeremy Michael.
After living her childhood and 16 years of marriage in Southern California, the family joined small-town life in Vernal, UT in 1990. Mickey dedicated 17 years to the City of Vernal as their accountant, ensuring the police force was paid on-time, city assets were well-managed, and city improvements were maintained.
On a pure lark in 2008, she chose to begin a new life adventure in Colorado and contributed her city financial management expertise to the City of Cañon City. Mickey retired from Cañon City in Summer 2020 but continued to mentor the accounting team and contribute to the City's interests for several months.
Mickey had a special place in her heart for children and served many roles in her local church congregation, including children's music leader, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society teacher, choir director, and scout's leader. Always the wise, kind friend, she will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her natural gift for teaching others, and her undying faith in Jesus Christ.
Mickey is preceded in death by her father Gene, her stepfather Joe, and her mother Lou. She is survived by her children – Jessica of Denver, CO, Jeremy (Jami) of Twin Falls, ID and her siblings Jamie (Michael) Murphy of Bellflower, CA, Randy (Liz) Morris of Kaysville, UT, and Garrett (Rhea) Costa of Rexburg, ID.
