Crowley--Memorial services will be held at Duhon Funeral Home, Saturday November 3, 2012 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM for Melvin Joseph Welch, 61, who lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on Wednesday October 24, 2012 at his residence in Crowley with his wife, family, and friends beside him.

Rev. Gerard Morgan will officiate for the services.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years Daraleen Trahan Welch; grandchild Kaysha Nicole Regan whom Melvin raised as his own since she was a baby; one daughter Marsha and husband Duane Richard; two sons: Charles Ray Trahan and longtime companion Weslyn (Doobie) Doucet and Thadd Regan and longtime companion Trisha Witherington. 20 grandchildren: Travis, Jenna, Brendan, Cameron, K'lynn, Kenzie, Kathryn, Bailey, Braylynn, Mia, Brooklyn, Heaven, Aidyn, Acetyn, Brently, Jude, Jacqulyn, Chad, Cora, Chalyn; and 2 great-grand children: Kayden and Makayla. He is also survived by one sister Clara (Sis) Duhon; four brothers: Allen and Karen Welch, Calvin and Lora Welch, Dale and Marleen Welch, and Jamie Welch and Amanda Martin; 7 brother-in-laws: Charles and Debby Trahan, Randall and Tamica Trahan, David and Roxanna Trahan, Scotty and Nancy Trahan, Timmy Trahan and Gabrielle Henry, Greg Bertrand, and Brian Hollier; 4 sister-in-laws: Brenda and Arthur Romero, Roxanna and Bryan Huval, Linda and James Abshire, Cynthia Trahan and Wesley Lemaire. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son Chad Blyne Trahan; his parents LC (Bob) and Enolia Smith Welch, one sister Linda Ann Welch, two brothers Harry Lee and Lawrence (Jr) Welch; one nephew Brandon Jules Trahan, one neice Lauren Welch; his mother in law Lillie Mae Menard; his father in law Angellas (Belos) and wife Olida Trahan, brother in law Michael Duhon, sister in law Donna Watson Welch.

Melvin worked for Bonus Crop Fertilizer for 7 years when it transferred to Helena Chemicals where he continued to work for the next 17 years until it closed its doors. He then opened his own mechanic shop Mel's Auto and Truck Repair which he owned and operated for 6 years until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2012. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses, doctors, volunteers and staff at Louisiana Hospice. We would also like to give special thanks to Melvin's sister in law Lora (Magoo) Welch and good friends Howard (Bee) and Joanna Smith for the amazing care given to Melvin in his time of need.
