Wanda F. Long passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Albany Health Care after a brief illness.
Wanda was born on July 07, 1948 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Basil & Florence (Bowman) Roberts. Wanda spent most of her life in Winchester, IN. She attended Winchester Community High School, although she didn't graduate. She always stressed to her children how important a High School diploma was. Trying to live up to her own goals, she went back later in life to get her G.E.D.
Most people in Winchester met her either at B&D Grocery Outlet or the Attic Window. However, she was best known where she helped her Husband of nearly 50 years, the late William (Bill) E. Long run the B & E Bike Shop of Winchester.
Wanda was blessed to have been the youngest of five children and the only daughter. Her entire life she had 4 older brothers that watched & protected her. She was preceded in death by all four and never got over losing them, Donney, Harold, Hubert & Terry Roberts all of Winchester. Wanda finally got sisters when her Brothers all were married, in the form of Jaetta (Donney), Susie (Harold) & Marcia (Terry) Roberts and the late Olive (Hubert) Roberts. She spent the best years of her life playing euchre on Friday nights with all of them on Kem Street.
Wanda had 3 children, Tim (Mary Jo) Thomas of Richmond, Dean (Dawn) Thomas of Woodlawn, TN. and Lori (Eric) Cross of Winchester. She had 2 Step-Sons that she loved like her own, Chris (Janice) Long and Curt (Andrea) Long.
Wanda was probably most proud of her Grandchildren that have all become very successful. Samantha (Ryan) Grace, Savannah Thomas, Sara (Anthony) Mangas, James (Taylor) Thomas, Brandon (Des) Thomas, Chris Kelly, Nick (Alexis) Kelly, Caitlin(Chris) Remington, Levi (Lindsey) Cross, Brandi (Brennen Brees) Cross, Mandy (Trey) Spurgeon and Jenna (Matt) Long.
Wanda had 22 Great Grand Children but "Wana" will be most missed on Wednesday's by her Great Grand-daughter (Braelynn) as she has lost her tag partner.
A service to celebrate Wanda's life will be at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, with Pastor Randol Easton officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers Wanda was an avid animal lover, her and Bill often brought home some sad story dog to keep. Donation can be made to any No Kill Local Animal Shelter or to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org
Walker Funeral Home in Winchester is entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerswinchester.com.
