CHAMPION — Ronald F. Mooney, 78, entered peacefully into eternal life Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 11:15 a.m. in the comfort of his own home under the comforting care of Mercy Health Hospice.

Ron was born Oct. 11, 1942 in Pittsburgh, the son of Francis and Helen Gerchak Mooney. He attended and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in geography and math. He retired as a supervisor with General Motors Packard Electric in 2000 where he worked for 28 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served abroad during the Vietnam War with the 557th Paratroop Company. For his service to his country, he was awarded the expert rifleman's badge and the good conduct medal and was honorably discharged Dec. 28, 1964 with the rank of Army Specialist. Ron had many hobbies. He enjoyed hunting in the Allegheny National Forest, downhill skiing and sail boating. He was a crazy Pittsburgh Steelers fan. What was most important to Ron was his devotion to his family. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Champion.

Ron is survived by his wife the former Felicia T. Bednarczyk, whom he married April 23, 1966; sons Michael Ronald (Kathleen) Mooney of Holland and David Patrick (Kelly) Mooney of Cortland; and grandsons Noah Mooney and Dylan Mooney.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia McQuade; and by a brother, Thomas Mooney.

Family will receive friends Monday, May 24, from 10 to 10:50 a.m. in the vestibule of St. William Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. in the church with Fr. Michael D. Balash as celebrant. Entombment will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland. The Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Ron's name to St. William Catholic Church, 5411 Mahoning Ave, Warren, Ohio 44483.
