Virginia June Smith was born June 5, 1920 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; one of three children born to Floyd Leslie Smith and Gertrude Victoria (Baker) Smith. Her father dug wells for the water company and later worked in sales for an oil company. Her mother was a homemaker. Virginia attended school in Tulsa and graduated from Central High School. She married Jack Murray in 1948. Virginia recalled their first date. Jack took her to Coney Island and treated her to a hot dog and a coke, which cost 15 cents! Jack and Virginia shared 35 years of marriage and were blessed with two children, one grandchild and one great grandchild. Virginia worked as a secretary for an oil company. She enjoyed reading, growing flowers and playing Bingo. She sang with the "Tritones" for over twenty years. Her favorite foods are meatloaf and chicken and noodles.
Virginia June (Smith) Murray was inducted into the Centenarians of Oklahoma Hall of Fame on the occasion of her 100th birthday celebration. Virginia lived 100 years and eleven months. She shared with us these words of wisdom: "Be Kind To Everyone".
