A husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jerry was loved by many. Jerry dedicated his life to the service of family, faith, and community. He was born and raised in Gary Indiana as the only child of Raymond Arthur and Mildred P. Lytle. Jerry was drafted into the Army after high school where he served in Germany protecting the border between Germany and what was then Czechoslovakia. Upon his return he attended and graduated Purdue University with a degree in forestry. He moved out West and worked in Northern Idaho as a logger until joining the US Forest Service for a beloved 30 year-long career, serving in Montana, Alaska, and Utah. Upon retiring he moved to Salmon, Idaho where he lived out the remaining years of his life.
Jerry married Minnie Joye Miller in 1972 and lived happily together until her passing in 2009. He then married Vicki Kay McBride of Hutchinson, KS in 2013.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Vicki, son-in-law, Dennis Gay, son, Greg Hamilton and his wife Mandy, granddaughters Kayliegh (Clay Nelson), Kara (Jesse Kenley), and Haley, and 6 great grandchildren. Jerry was welcomed home by his first wife, Joye, his daughter, Kathy Gay, and his parents.
Funeral services are under the care and direction of Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon Idaho and services will be held at the LDS Stake Center at 1pm with a viewing at 12pm and a graveside ceremony at the Salmon Cemetery at 2pm. All are welcome!
