He was born May 24, 1928 in North Bergen, NJ and lived in West Engelwood Teaneck, NJ. The son of Alfred P. Martin and Catherine G. Martin (nee Mitchell) both deceased. He was married to his beloved wife and "best thing that ever happened to him," Julia K. Martin (nee Angelides) for 56 years.
A compassionate, supportive and loving father, who leaves behind his daughter Catherine J. M. Faught (Robert), and sons William J. Martin (Shannon) and George S. Martin (Jacqueline). He has 4 amazing grandsons, Justin, Garrett, Evan and Liam all who were the apple of his eye and his greatest pride and joy.
He is survived by his brother George Martin and sister, Patricia Falvey. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred Martin and Robert Martin and step-brother John Bradley. He also leaves many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins.
Walter James Martin retired from the Department of Labor as a Civil Servant after 28 years of service. He also had an engaging career with Bell Telephone Laboratories in support of NASA's Apollo program and broader Manned Space Program. Prior to beginning his career he served in the United States Army and United States Air Force.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 24th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 520 Veirs Mill Rd., Rockville, MD 20852. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
