Phyllis (Fletcher) McClain Barnes, April 20, 1933 – May 16, 2021. Phyllis Ann Fletcher was born on Apr. 20, 1933, to Mary E. Fletcher and Raymond K. Fletcher of Ross Twp., Green Co., OH. She departed this earth on May 16, 2021, and into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior. Phyllis graduated from Ross Twp. H.S. in 1951. During her career, she worked for the E.A. Kinsey Co., the Mead Corp, and for nearly 40 years in civil service, retiring as the secretary to the Commander of Rickenbacker AFB. On Jul. 30, 1960, Phyllis wed George Richard (Dick) McClain. Together, they raised two daughters, Melanie Lynn and Janel Rae. As an Air Force family, they made their home in several places, including Washington, D.C.; San Antonio, TX; the Panama Canal Zone; Amarillo, TX; Minot, ND; Xenia, OH; and Grove City, OH (where she lived for 47 years). Several years after Dick's 1986 passing, Phyllis married John George Barnes, Jr., and they remained together until his passing in 2000. Phyllis grew up in the Friends Church in Jamestown, OH, and was a member of the Grove City United Methodist Church at the time of her passing. In her many years of serving God, she especially enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher and overseeing various children's Christmas pageants. She will be remembered by many as always being "totally put together" with her perfectly matched outfits, jewelry, makeup, and pristinely coiffed hairdos. Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Raymond and Mary Fletcher, brothers Ray and Rudy, special cousin Helen Fletcher, husbands Dick McClain and George Barnes, and daughter Janel McClain Rochester. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie McClain Warner (Jeffrey); her grandsons, Matthew McClain Warner and Mason Kincaid Warner; and former son-in-law, Michael Rochester. The family offers special thanks to Capital City Hospice, who provided such loving care and attention to Phyllis over the past six months. A private burial will take place at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery in South Charleston, OH. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Capital City Hospice Hope Foundation, 2800 Corporate Exchange Drive, Suite 170, Columbus, OH 43231.
