Robert J. "Bob" Oliver, 65, of Orange, Virginia, entered God's eternal care, Monday, May 17, 2021 at University of Virginia hospital, Charlottesville, VA after several years of battling congestive heart failure.

Born November 10, 1955, as an Army brat at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he was the son of the late John J. Oliver and Thelma (Yamashita) Oliver. Bob was the loving husband of Jan (Bellamy) Oliver with whom he shared over 43 years of marriage.

Coach Bob Oliver graduated Summa Cum Laude from Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA, where he played four years of football, met his wife at the duck pond wall, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Upon graduation, he began his legendary teaching and coaching career. A career which spans 40 years of public school teaching, 20 years coaching baseball, 40 years coaching football with 19 years as the Head Varsity Coach of the Chancellor Chargers High School football team. Coach Oliver's impact and dedication to his students and players is unrivaled. He will be inducted into the inaugural class of Chancellor High School's Hall of Fame in October 2021.

In addition to his loving wife, Jan, Bob is survived by his children, Matt Oliver (wife – Heather Oliver), Jennifer Wheeler (husband – Dustin Wheeler), Jamie Beasley (husband – Tony Beasley), and Johnny Oliver; eight grandchildren, John (13), Cora (10), Kelsi (8), Addison (7), McKenzie (5), Lilly (1), Adalyn and Elijah (9 months); as well as his mother, Thelma and sister, Karen Lutman (husband – Jeff Lutman), and several extended Yamashita Ohana.

The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Johnson Funeral Home 31440 Constitution Hwy., Locust Grove, VA. 22508. A visitation will be held Friday, May 21 from 6:30-8:30pm at Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral and burial will be held Saturday, May 22 at 11:00am at Rhoadesville Baptist Church 26042 Lafayette Dr., Rhoadesville, VA., 22542. Donations can be made to the Chancellor Chargers High School football program in honor of Coach Oliver.
An avid outdoorsman, may all those who loved Bob, find comfort in knowing that his heart is now made whole and may we picture him in heaven trailing a big buck or casting a fishing line into a lake.
