Robert "Bob" Ellrich, age 97, of Newell, Iowa died May 19, 2021 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Private graveside services will take place at the Newell Cemetery in Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.
Bob was born October 21, 1923 in Newell the son of Homer and Velma (Roushe) Ellrich.
Growing up, he attended Newell School, graduating in 1941. Following high school graduation, he helped on the farm until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1943, serving in South Pacific until his honorable discharge in 1946.
In December of 1943, Bob was united in marriage to Nola Madison. Together, they were blessed with two children: Roberta Lee and Barbara Ann. Bob and Nola were married for 71 years.
Bob was an auctioneer, a realtor and farmer. He loved his auction business making many friends and overcoming challenges along the way. Bob retired in 2000 and started restoring old farm machinery and antiques. He also served on the bank board for 13 years.
Bob was proud to have been a member of the Greatest Generation and the American Legion.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Roberta Kemmer of Sandwich, Illinois; Barbara (Norm) Caldwell of Humboldt, Iowa; four grandchildren: Shari, Scott, Chad and Niki; six great grandchildren: Tyler, Keaton, Carson, Hannah, Josie, and Ellie; extended family and many friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Nola; parents, Homer and Velma Ellrich; brother, Richard (Colleen) Ellrich; sister-in-law, Bernadine Rogers; brother-in-law, Leo Madison; son-in-law, John Kemmer.
