Mary Adaline Nash was born at home near Mineral Springs NC to Pat Belk Nash and Van William Nash on Wednesday, March 6, 1946. She was named for both her grandmothers.
Mary was a graduate of Monroe High School where she was "a force to be reckoned with" on the basketball court.
Mary was also a graduate of Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Radiology. She worked at the hospital for a short time after graduation before moving to Sarasota, Florida where she spent her career working in an orthopedic clinic. She made numerous friends in Florida and remained "connected" even after moving back to North Carolina.
Mary was kind and caring to everyone and touched many lives. She was always there for all our family and others. Following in our mother's footsteps, she never visited friends or family empty-handed. She was always bearing gifts. It might be a homemade cake or other goodies she had made or maybe just something she had seen somewhere and wanted that particular friend or family member to have it.
When Mary came to Kannapolis for Christmas, her car would be loaded with gifts, homemade cakes, cookies, party mix and other assorted goodies plus at least two large macaroni and cheese casseroles. She spoiled us and we loved it! We miss her already.
Also, like our mother, Mary enjoyed baking but had not been able to do so for quite some time. A couple of months ago, she was wishing she could bake a cherry pound cake -using our mother's recipe - and one of Mary's specialties. One of her nieces bought all the ingredients for the cake and invited Mary to her house so they could bake together. That was a very special time for them. A short time later, Mary wanted to bake a pound cake for Easter so she and her niece got together again and baked the last cake Mary would ever be able to make.
Mary's life on earth ended Monday morning, May 10, 2021 when God called her home. Both her sisters were beside her holding her hands until the end.
Left behind to celebrate her life and to remember the happy times we shared with Mary are: sisters, Lynda Rape (Melvin), Renee Black (Clinton); nieces, Connie Jones (Carl), Julie Doby (Doug); nephews, John Rape (Cheryl), Justin Black; son Tres Cox (Edwin Lewis Cox III)(Erika) and step daughter, Lily; great nieces, Ashlyn Doby, Caroline Johnson (Tatum), Eva Black; great nephews, Matt Mariano (Kelly), Michael Mariano (Kaylan), Sam Rape (Lindsay) great great nephews, Brooks, Grayson and Caleb Mariano. Also, Juliann Morgan Thompson who held a very special place in Mary's heart since Juliann was a little girl and Charlie Hill, a special friend.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held Saturday, Mary 22, 2021 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church – Monroe, NC, where she was a long time member.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 109 Morrow St., Monroe, NC 28112
Mary's ashes will be scattered in the gulf at Siesta Key as she requested.
Therefore, we do not lose heart.
Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16
