DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN
Russell N. Foote, the father-in-law of A. J. Reid, both of whom are old residents of Lawrence, died at Kansas City Friday night, April 23. The remains will be brought here on the 11:30 train today. It has not been determined whether the remains will be taken from the depot to the cemetery or to the First Baptist church, but the friends are invited to meet at the Santa Fe depot, at … (the rest is missing).
Mr. Foote was born near Middlebury, Vermont, July 4, 1810. He was a relative of Rear Admiral Foote and the late Senator Foote of that state.
He was married at an early age and continued to reside in Vermont until 1846, when he "removed" to Waukasha, Wisconsin. Subsequently he went to California, but returned and, in 1859, came to Kansas, settling in Jackson County.
During the war he came to this city and continued to reside here until a few years ago, when his wife, having died, he went to Kansas City and has since lived with his son-in-law, Mr. Reid. He leaves two children, his daughter, Mrs. Reid, and a son, Myron E. Foote, editor of the Brown County World. His brother, Ezra M. lived here for some time and was well and favorably known as an eminent teacher of vocal music. Another brother, Silas K. Foote was also well known and favorably here.
The deceased was a truly Christian man and was a member of the Baptist church for more than fifty years. He was an active energetic man, and was engaged in business until the time of his death. Mr. G. Grovenor will have charge of the funeral, and the services will be conducted by Rev. A. H. Stote.
