Richard was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and earned his Associate's Degree from Chicago City College. He served in the US Air Force for 8 years and was honorably discharged at the rank of A1C in 1964. He worked as a Missile Maintenance Supervisor for the US Army for over 40 years before retiring in 1998.
Richard traveled internationally throughout his lifetime. He was an avid golfer and skier, having skied in the beautiful mountains of Switzerland. He was also a golfsmith, making custom golf clubs. Richard built grandfather clocks as well. He was a very hard worker, was very intelligent, and enjoyed living a private life. Above all else, he will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Surviving family members include his wife of 50 years, Winifred (Fredda) A. Miles of Manchester; a daughter and a son; grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and one grandson.
